This Organic Kirishima Houjicha is cultivated by Shutaro Hayashi, 5th generation tea farmer on Kirishima Mountain. This green tea was made using bancha leaves from the autumn harvest. They were carefully roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal until they are reddish brown and have developed a nice aroma.
The roasting process lowers the amount of caffeine in this tea making it a great choice for evenings, and it's full rich roasted taste goes well with morning breakfast. This is a powder tea version of Houjicha, ideal for lattes, smoothies and desserts. Mr. Hayashi stays true to his production philosophy by insisting on a fine sorting, even while producing everyday teas. You'll find this tea to be complex, nutty and a little bit sweet.
