In the West, Lapsang Souchong is a term that is generally associated with a powerful smoky tea. Lapsang Souchong (Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong) originated in the WuYi mountains and it is widely considered the very first black tea (or red tea is China). Traditionally it was not heavily smoked as a post-production step but carefully processed in a 4 story house (Qing Lou) with a pine fire on the ground floor lending a subtle and elegant smokiness. Our Lapsang Souchong Traditional Smoked Black Tea is an example of the latter made using leaves from 80 years old bushes of the Wu Yi Cai Cha varietal. We have but just a small amount... so don't miss the opportunity to try this traditional, rare and exquisite tea that is so often misunderstood.
