Yunnan is famous for their Puerh tea and Dian Hong red teas but being "the birthplace of tea" their raw material and ideal growing conditions, soil and terroir make it an ideal location to experiment with other teas such as the fine white teas which we love to offer. Occasionally you find an interesting green tea from Yunnan and now we are offering for the very first time an experimental Yunnan oolong made with the Jin Xuan "Golden Lily" cultivar in Lincang at almost 2000 meters elevation.
The leaves were picked by hand (one bud, one leaf) and processed by drying for 9 hours before undergoing bruising by shaking in a bamboo drum for half an hour. The leaves were then rolled for 15 minutes and shaped for another hour. The processing is quite slow and considered finished when the oxidation reaches about 85% making it quite close to Hong Cha.
You'll find this tea to be rich and intense with full body, floral fragrance and a very pleasant muscatel grape sweetness that we usually associate with nice second flush Darjeelings but without a trace of their typical astringency. In fact this tea is quite unique in every sense.
