These purple puerh buds can be considered both puerh tea and white tea because while the leaves come from the large leaf puerh varietal, the simple, sun-dried processing makes it actually a white tea. The buds were handpicked by the Wa tribe at over 1800 meters in the wild Yunnan forests in Ximeng, Cangyuan and Menglian on the border of China and Burma. The Wa tribe believe these wild ancient trees have a powerful spirit that has protected them in times of war, so this tea is precious to them and available only in limited supply. These purple buds are nature’s way of resisting damage from unfavorably hot and humid climate as the tea leaves produce anthocyanin which reflects some of the UV rays and gives this tea many additional health properties. You’ll find the buds are actually a beautiful mix of purple, green and yellow tones. They handle many infusions filled with sweetness that never turns bitter!
