Beipu is famous for bug-bitten Oriental Beauty. Gui Fei Royal Concubine or “Royal Courtesan” forms part of the select group of teas famous for the sweetness provided by being bitten by a small jassid: Cicadellidae: Jacobiasca formosana (Paoli) during the summer. When bitten a chemical reaction occurs in thaf that lends sweet honey taste to the tea. Gui Fei is different from Oriental Beuaty in that the leaves are rolled as balled oolong, slightly less oxidized but roasted a little heavier. This Gui Fei comes Chin Shin Da Mo (Green Heart) cultivar tea bushes. You’ll love this very sweet and lively tea!
