This highly aromatic sencha was made by Etsuro Masui a renown Kawane, Shikuoka tea farmer devoted to making pesticide-free, all-natural, artisan Japanese tea. His teas are very elegant, aromatic and with very nice body and structure.
Mr. Masui let the leaves wilt for 14 hours and lightly steamed them Asamishi style. The leaves are of the Skizu 7132 varietal which is a hybrid made in the late 60s or early 70s using Yabukita mother seeds and a foreign varietal father which wasn’t categorized. It’s a very fragrant varietal with a high concentration of natural coumarin which gives it a sweet, floral fragrance reminiscent of sakura-mochi.
