We're so happy to finally be able to support this lovely initiative and offer delicious, organic tea grown nearby in Oporto at Cha Camelia. This is an amazing opportunity to try well-made, locally produced tea made with love. Nina and Dirk first plantes Japanese tea seeds in 2012 and the fruit of their work is now really beginning to show.

According to Cha Camelia, this tea gets its name due to in the early 16th centuries, after the discovery of the sea route to India, the impact of the Orient was so great on the Portuguese that they no longer represented the compass rose as pointing north, but rather east. At this time, they also brought the first camellias to Portugal and called them roses of the East.

This tea was produced like most Chinese green teas and has a nice, long, wiry-leaf appearance but the tea actually tastes more like a light Japanese sencha green tea. Nice, local tea, well worth discovering!
