Korea, like Japan is a country that primarily prides itself on its green tea. This season we're very excited to introduce two very nice Korean teas that are quite rare: a new Korean Balhyocha roasted oolong and a Korean Hwangcha. This red tea comes from an organic certified farm in Jellanam Do, Yeongam, South Korea. In Korea they call their oxidyzed tea "Hwangcha", which literally means yellow tea, which can be confusing since there is actually another category which is yellow tea and it is not the same, since Hwangcha is really closer to red tea.

This tea might remind you of Taiwanese hong cha, as it is lighter, silkier, smoother and sweeter than your average red tea and absent of any astringency. The leaves are large and not uniform in their oxidation as some leaves are still more green, which is typical of hwangcha. This tea is warming and delicious, very smooth and full of sweet, woody notes that will satisfy you.
