Awakening is an extraordinary quality second flush Himalaya tea from northern India! LaKyrsiew, meaning awakening in the local Khasi language, is a boutique tea garden in Meghalaya, Northern India between Assam and Darjeeling on the southern bank of Umiam Lake at 1,000-1,300 metres altitude. Its story began 200 years ago when the East India Company first scouted this region as ideal for tea planting. The misty, forest-covered Khasi Hills were found to have the perfect conditions for growing tea, yet tribal laws forbade outsiders from working their land and, consequently, the project was abandoned. In 2002 LaKyrsiew was established on virgin scrubland, cultivating organically from the start, protecting the fresh topsoil from damage and guarantee tea quality.
The leaves are of the T78 cultivar and are beautiful, loosely rolled, with many young buds and emits and intense aroma even before brewing. They processed the leaves according to the old English method so it is quite similar to a nice second flush Darjeeling tea with notes of ripe fruit, spices and an intense muscatel flavor that persists on the palate.
